Moment To Moment Diligence

Being fully aware of the present moment is the ultimate spiritual challenge. Since ancient times the sages have taught that living fully in this moment, here and now, is the key to being completely happy, energetic, free, and enlightened.

This is, for most, easier to talk about than to actually live up to.

But the fact is it takes true moment to moment awareness and diligence to free yourself from internal blockage, habitual negativity, and self defeat. And you need to be fully aware and fully here to really allow inspiration to move through you and create the life that makes you the happiest.

On one hand it’s simple, just allow now to unfold and stay centered on what you want. On the other hand, living in the here and now is the most difficult process you’ll ever engage, because your mind constantly looks for distractions and excuses to wander.

Whatever you do, avoid turning the pursuit of present moment mindfulness into some kind of chore. Relax and have fun with this process!

Tell yourself you can do it. And when you catch your mind taking a stroll just laugh and return to the now.

In time you will gain clarity. And you’ll attain a perspective unlike anything you could ever get from a book or an audio course.

  1. This is a great post. I have read Eckhart Tolle’s “Power of Now” and “The New Earth”, and both books have inspired me greatly.

I have come to realize that this concept of awareness and presence is something that has to be worked on diligently. It is almost as if we have to re-program ourselves into undoing years of being identified with our minds.

Initially, I like the brief moments of stillness and peace when I am able to open a portal to the Unmanifested. However, it doesn’t take long for the mind to rush in with distractions! I am still training myself to watch the mind and laugh at it, and I notice that that with practice, this is becoming easier and easier.

For me, what helps to pull myself to the moment is regular meditation and swimming. I am in an exceptionally difficult situation, and I am using this period of my life to master this art of awareness and presence. My desire to do so is stronger than ever!

Any insights into this post is welcome!

  2. You’re right: this is something that takes our constant diligence and it is probably made more so by the world we have been raised in.

But I think it’s awesome that you are meeting a challenging point in your own life by working on your awareness. This guarantees you’ll experience growth and new discoveries.
